Thomas Stockhammer has received his Dipl.-Ing. and Dr.-Ing. degree from the Munich University of Technology, Germany. He was visiting researcher at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, NY and at the University of San Diego, California (UCSD). He is co-founder and CEO of Novel Mobile Radio (NoMoR) Research, a privately owned company providing consulting and software development services as well as products on emerging communication networks such as HSPA, WiMaX, MBMS, LTE, LTE-Advanced as well as on Mobile TV and IPTV-related matters.

He has published more than 150 conference and journal papers, is member of several technical program committees and holds about 60 patents. He regularly participates and contributes to different standardization activities, e.g. JVT, ITU-T, IETF, 3GPP, and DVB. He has led working and adhoc groups in 3GPP and DVB and also acts as rapporteur/editor of several standardization documents. Since 2004, he is continuously working as a research and standardization consultant for Siemens Mobile Devices, BenQ mobile, Digital Fountain, Inc, LG Electronics and Qualcomm in areas such as multimedia communication, content delivery protocols and TV-related matters. His research interests include video transmission, cross-layer and system design, forward error correction, content delivery protocols, rate-distortion optimization, information theory, and mobile communications.
