Sheila Cassells joined BSkyB in 2001 as Head of Economic Policy, dealing with a broad range of UK and European policy matters, particularly in relation to technology and standardisation, digital switchover, spectrum and audiovisual content. She was Deputy Chair of the UK’s Digital Television Action Plan Stakeholders Group from January 2002 to January 2005 and is Chair of the Digital Interoperability Forum (DIF). Through DIF, Sheila co-chairs, with the EBU, the European High Definition Forum and, with the EBU, bmco forum and GSM Europe, provides the Secretariat for the European Mobile Broadcasting Council. Prior to joining Sky, Sheila spent 14 years at the Independent Broadcasting Authority/Independent Television Commission where she established the Economic Regulation Division and was, from 1996, Director of Economic Regulation. Sheila was educated at Edinburgh University, Queen’s University (Canada), University College London and the City University Business School.
