Managing Director, Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT)
Dr. Klaus Illgner-Fehns received his diploma degree in electrical engineering with an emphasis on communications engineering at RWTH Aachen in 1991. Since then he was with Institute for Communications Engineering, RWTH Aachen, as research assistant.
In 1998 he earned a doctorate in electrical engineering from RWTH Aachen for his thesis on "Scalable Video Coding". Working for Texas Instruments, Dallas, USA until 2000 he developed image processing algorithms for digital camera chips and supported the marketing and sales of the chips. In July 2000 Dr. Illgner joined Siemens in Munich, where he was responsible for a team developing new technologies in the field of multimedia communications in heterogeneous networks.
In 2004 he was appointed managing director of the Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT), the research institute of the public broadcasters in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Dr. Illgner is member of the board or steering group of various national and international bodies and consortia.
