Director of Spectrum Policy, Ofcom
Greg Bensberg has been involved in all elements of digital broadcasting over the last 20 years. This has included leading one of the world’s first DTT projects (called Spectre) which mounted the first UK trials of DTT in the early 90's, the development of the DVB transmission standard, the licensing of UK DTT services by the ITC in 1996 and 2002 (Freeview) and the development of the UK’s digital switchover strategy.
He has worked for the ITC/Ofcom since 1992 and is currently Director of Spectrum Policy at Ofcom where he leads the UK’s spectrum clearance programme and for Ofcom’s digital switchover and broadcast spectrum policy. He is chairman of the Joint Planning Project, which plans and allocates spectrum for UK DTT services. He was Project Director of the Digital Dividend Review project, which developed the UK’s technical and regulatory approach to the release of spectrum afforded by digital switchover.
