Since 1990 Chris Lefrère develops and manages innovation in the areas of Information, Communication and Entertainment. With regard to iDTV, in 1994, working with Alcatel he developed the iVOD trial project for BT for 2500 households based on MPEG-2 over ATM over DSL and Fiber To The Home. In 2003 and 2004 for Telenet he developed the Flemish iDTV field trial project together with the Flemish Government, broadcasters, cable operators and university research centers and 300 households based on DVB-C, DOCSIS and MHP. Launched as a commercial service mid 2005, MHP is a key technology of Telenet’s advanced SD and HD iDTV platform, enabling an impressive range of services including the EPG, iVOD, the PVR, several real-time broadcaster play-along and vote-along applications, t-mail and several t-government and t-commerce applications. To date the penetration of Telenet’s MHP based iDTV service has been twice as fast as the Internet penetration and four times as fast as the mobile penetration in Belgium.
