Alberto Morello graduated in Electronic Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino in 1982. He received his doctorate degree in 1987, joined the RAI Research Centre in 1985, and became the Director in 1999.
As an expert on broadcasting systems, he had a primary role in the RAI digital HDTV experiments via Olympus satellite (Italia '90), and in the definition of the DVB systems for digital multi-programme TV broadcasting by satellite and terrestrial channels (DVB-S, DVB-T, DVB-T2). Furthermore, he was the chairman of the DVB groups which defined the DVB-DSNG and the DVB-S2 systems. He is Chairman of the EBU Technical Committee.
